FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions on Giving
Q: Why do you need private support for a Tennessee public college?
A: We need your support for scholarships to help students who do not have the financial resources to attend college. Our goal is to build up our endowed scholarship funds. The principal of the fund is maintained and invested for the purpose of producing income to use for scholarships, as directed by the donor. If you prefer, you can donate money for a non-endowed scholarship. These gifts are disbursed at the direction of the donor. Both principal and earnings may be distributed.
We also need your support for other purposes, such as the Blount County Campus, endowment, academic and student enrichment, the Art and Media Technologies Building, and the nursing program (see Fundraising Priorities). Pellissippi State is primarily funded by 1) appropriations from the Tennessee State Legislature, 2) tuition and fees, and 3) federal grants. The College must supplement these sources of funding to fulfill its mission. The Foundation is supporting the College by soliciting funds for these and other programs—such as equipment endowment, technology endowment, library, performing arts, and professional development—from area businesses, industries, alumni, and private donors.
