Horizons Annual Photography Competition Rules

The Engineering and Media Technologies Department is curating a high school photography competition for seniors from Blount and Knox Counties that will: A) Promote Pellissippi State Community College, B) Promote Media and Technologies, and C) Assist in informing local high school students about all the advantages of attending Pellissippi State.


Eligibility
The only requirement is that the student must be a current senior in a high school residing in Blount or Knox County. It is completely FREE to enter the exhibition and ONLY ONE entry per student will be accepted.


Entries
All types of photographs are eligible for entry, including black and white, color, non-silver and computer-manipulated.

Photos must be submitted to www.pstcc.edu/horizons/entry by midnight on Friday, October 11, 2013.

To prepare your image for uploading, please use the following specifications:

  • sRGB or RGB color space (standard), not CMYK (typically used in the printing industry)
  • 72 ppi resolution
  • Sized to 1500 pixels on the longest side with the other size width or height proportional
  • Layers flattened
  • 8 bit mode
  • JPG format
  • JPEG compression at level 10 (maximum)
  • Appropriate labeling. Files must be labeled as LAST NAME_FIRST NAME_2-DIGIT MONTH, 2-DIGIT YEAR OF BIRTH.jpg.

Example: John Doe, born January 1980, would label his doe_john_0180.jpg


Judging
Faculty from Pellissippi State’s Photography and Art departments, as well as members of their Community Advisory Boards, will serve as jurors for the competition.

Entries will be judged on: Creativity, subject matter uniqueness, composition, & overall impact of the photograph.


Winning Entries / Awards
Winners will be announced November 12 at 7 p.m. in the Clayton Performing Arts Center located on Pellissippi State’s Hardin Valley Campus. You must be present to win.

All submitted work will be shown in the Bagwell Gallery from November 11- 15. The gallery is located in the Bagwell Center for Media and Art on the Hardin Valley Campus.

The individual judged to have the best photograph will receive a $500 scholarship to attend Pellissippi State. The College will also award 10 checks of $50 each. Winning entries will be displayed on the Pellissippi State Horizons 2013 website and will be announced to area media.


Liability
The utmost care will be taken in handling all entries. Pellissippi State Community College reserves the right to reproduce accepted work for contest promotion in both printed and electronic forms. Artists retain all other rights. Submission of an entry to this competition implies acceptance of all conditions here stated.
