      Basic and Workplace Skills Improvement

Improve your basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics in order to get a job, to advance your career, to receive self-satisfaction, and/or to assist your children with their educational needs.

    Did you know....

Literacy standards are changing? One hundred years ago a person who could write his/her name was considered literate.
By 1960, the U.S. Office of Education defined 8th grade as the literacy level.
Today, most operational manuals are written on the 12th grade level. Technology is quickly making education essential for the workplace.

    GED Preparation

Prepare for the writing, social studies, science, interpreting literature and the arts, and mathematics sections of the GED tests. The GED tests are designed to measure the skills generally associated with four years of regular high school instruction. The tests provide an opportunity for adults to earn a high school equivalency diploma.

    Career and College Guidance

Participate in vocational assessment and counseling to identify your career interests and abilities, and to match your skills with those needed in business/industry today. Available to help you with your search are tools such as Discover, Microinfoe, the Multi-Media Guide to Career Exploration, and Job Bank. Professional career counselors will guide your search and help you develop a plan for gaining employment or for vocational school or college.

    Did you know.....
The average person changes jobs at least seven (7) times during his/her lifetime?
One out of twenty first-year college students are GED graduates?
Career education can help you identify the skills you need to meet today's job and prepare you for tomorrow's job?

    College Placement Preparation (ASSET)

Preparation Workshops are available to help students perform their best on the Asset exam. The program operates on an individual basis. Participants work directly with an instructor using a variety of learning materials and strategies, including one-on-one tutoring, computer tutorials, workbooks, videotapes, practice tests, and more!
