Welcome to the GED Testing Center!

The General Educational Development Tests are designed to measure skills associated with four years of regular high school instruction. The GED test covers a wide range of subjects and consists of 5 subtests, including Writing Skills, Social Studies, Science, Interpreting Literature and the Arts, and Mathematics. The tests provides an opportunity to earn a high school equivalency diploma.

Eligibility Requirements
To take the GED test, examinees must be at least 17 years of age and have not received a high school diploma or GED. Individuals who are 17 or 18 years old must have an "Age Waiver" completed and submitted to the Test Examiner in order to test. Anyone that has been enrolled in high school during the last year will also be required to have an Age Waiver regardless of age.

Age Waivers can be obtained from the Attendance Supervisor in the school system from which the individual withdrew.

Test Schedule and Fees
The GED test is offered several times a month (usually on Thursdays and one Saturday a month) at the Pellissippi Parkway campus in Knoxville. It is also offered on one Saturday a month in Blount County. The test begins at 8 a.m. and lasts the complete day. Examinees must have an appointment to test. The complete test costs $55 and each subtest is $11. Call (865) 694-6752 for a listing of test dates or to make an appointment to take the GED test.

Proper Identification
Examinees must present two forms of identification with one being a state or federal I.D. such as a driver's license or the GEDTS photo. Other identification can include a social security card or birth certificate.

Diploma Requirements
In order to receive a high school equivalency diploma (GED), the examinee must be a resident of Tennessee and have an average standard score of 45 on the total tests (total standard score of 225) with no subtest score below 41. Scores are mailed directly to the examinee within three weeks from the test date. The diploma is mailed from Nashville to the examinee within 6-8 weeks after the test date.
