Library of Congress Classification Outline

LC Classification System

Pellissippi Library, like many academic libraries in the United States, uses Library of Congress Classification (LC) for call numbers. This system uses a combination of letters and numbers to arrange materials by subjects. The first letter(s) of a call number represent the extended area of the subject heading. Following call letters and numbers narrow in on a subject area.
