Art

At Pellissippi State, our primary focus is to enable our students to develop their individual creative intelligence through the practice of the art disciplines. Through constant exposure to critical visual thinking, we instill in our students a strong sense of aesthetics.

Our focus is the teaching of Fine Arts in a studio setting under the guidance of practicing professional artists. Pellissippi State offers a comprehensive range of studio courses in painting, drawing, design, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture. Cross-disciplinary study is also encouraged for those students wishing to pursue this avenue of visual expression. In recognition of student's other academic obligations, open studio time is readily available to provide additional opportunities to continue work outside of class.

Art history survey courses customarily required of all art majors are also offered each semester. Throughout the year, students participate in exhibitions, work with guest artists, and attend relevant lectures and regional exhibitions. Additionally, students are provided opportunities to meet with representatives of four-year colleges and art institutes.

All art faculty are accomplished practicing professionals in their respective fields with distinguished exhibition records. They are accessible to students to assist in making appropriate decisions about future educational goals and careers in the visual arts, creating portfolios, one-on-one critiques, and general guidance.
