Mike Rose artMike Rose works primarily with forged steel and cast metals. Often utilizing a functional format for his pieces the objects are embellished with zoomorphic imagery. "When heated in the forge the steel become very plastic and can be moved as if it were clay." Receiving his M.F.A in Sculpture from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Mike perused blacksmithing professionally for four years in his own studio. He then worked at Dollywood as their Master Blacksmith for 25 years. He has demonstrated nationally as well as completing commissions through the world. "I feel that it is important to share what I have learned about the manipulation of materials with students so they may express themselves fully."
