Programs and Courses

If you're looking to learn Spanish, the guitar, or maybe explore a career in journalism, social work, history or the theatre, the Liberal Arts department has what you’re looking for. Our areas of study include:

  • Communication Studies: speech, mass communication and journalism
  • Fine Arts: art, music and theatre
  • Humanities & Social Sciences: history, philosophy, political science, social work, sociology, and women's studies
  • Modern Languages: American Sign Language, Chinese, French, German and Spanish

The Liberal Arts department offers a wide array of major concentration courses specific to Tennessee Transfer Pathways, which are designed to help community college students plan to transfer to a Tennessee public university of a select Tennessee private college to complete a baccalaureate degree. Students who complete a TTP course will earn an associate of art, associate of science, or associate of fine arts degree during their time at Pellissippi State. Through Tennessee Transfer Pathways, students are guaranteed that all of their courses will be accepted at their next college or university, and will count toward completion of their intended major.

Tennessee Transfer Pathways majors that are served directly through the Liberal Arts department include studio art, foreign languages, communication studies, history, political science, sociology, social work, theatre arts and music.

The Liberal Arts department also offers courses that meet the General Education core competencies in four areas: communication, history, humanities and fine arts and social and behavioral sciences.
