Oxford Reference Online - provides searchable access to 100 dictionary and reference titles published by Oxford Press.

Twayne's  Authors Series.    - provides criticism and discussion on the works of more than 600 authors. Each book on an author averages 175-200 pages in length..

Black Literature Criticism. James P. Draper, ed. Detroit: Gale Research Inc., 1992. 3 volumes. REF PS 153 .N5 B556 1992 This three volume series presents excerpts from criticism of the most significant works by Black authors over the past 200 years. This series offers critical analysis of works of short fiction, long fiction, non-fiction, poetry and drama.

Short Stories for Students.  David Galens, Project Editor, Detroit: Gale Research Inc., 1997-.  Multi-volume. REF PN 3373 .S3844 Each bi-annual volume presents an author biography, plot summary, character description, historical context, critical overview and criticism of  approximately 20 of the most-studied early-college level short stories.  Cumulative indexes enable users to access entries via author, title, nationality, and theme.

Short Story Criticism. Laurie Lanzan Harris and Sheila Fitzgerald, eds. Detroit: Gale Research Co., 1988- . REF PN 3321 .S56 This series presents excerpts from criticism of major short story writers. Writers from all eras and nationalities are covered. Each entry includes a biographical and critical introduction, list of principal works, excerpts from criticism, and a bibliography for further reading.  Includes title index.

Masterplots II: Short Story Series. Frank N. Magill, ed. Pasadena, CA: Salem Press, 1986. Six volumes. REF PN 3326 .M27 1986 Contains critical evaluations of 732 outstanding short stories from world literature. Articles are divided into three sections: 1) the story, 2) themes and meanings, and 3) style and technique. An index to the complete set is provided in volume 6.

Critical Survey of Short Fiction.  Frank N. Magill, ed. Pasadena, CA: Salem Press, 1993.  Seven volumes.  REF PN 3321.C7 1993 Indexed by author, entries provide analysis of writer's short fiction, story characteristics, and influence.  Brief biographical information and bibliography of works are included.  One volume of essays examines history, characteristics, structure, and prime examples of short fiction from all periods.
