Why Study Mathematics?

Mathematics has always been an important area of study for a liberal arts education, and in today’s technology-driven world, understanding mathematical concepts and critical thinking is more important than ever. There is an increasing demand for well-trained professionals in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields, and each of these STEM fields requires mathematical knowledge.

There are diverse transfer and career opportunities for a student who studies mathematics at Pellissippi State Community College. Many of the classes we offer are transferable to other Tennessee Board of Regents schools, or have an equivalent at The University of Tennessee or other four-year colleges.

Students who study mathematics may find careers in teaching, finance, engineering, research or business. Regardless of your career, mathematics will give you the analytical thinking and problem-solving skills you will need to succeed.
