Foundation reception honors donors and scholarship recipients

donor receptionStudent scholarships often determine whether an individual can afford to attend college.  Even a small award can set the course for an aspiring student’s future.

The Pellissippi State Foundation hosted a reception November 20 in the newly renovated Goins Building Student Lounge to recognize the donors who have contributed scholarship funds and the talented and deserving students who have benefited from the assistance.

“It’s an opportunity for students to say ‘thank you’ to donors, who, in turn, can meet the recipients of the awards they’ve established,” said Pellissippi State President Allen Edwards.

Approximately 250 students received Foundation scholarships this fall, with the awards ranging from $250 to full tuition and fees valued at approximately $2,800.

This year, the fall event was expanded to recognize recipients of scholarships that focus on Pellissippi State’s access and diversity initiatives. The College’s major scholarship categories include music, academic service and Foundation scholarships. The minimum academic requirement is typically a 2.5 GPA, and other criteria may apply.

The annual deadline for submission of scholarship applications is March 15. For a complete list of scholarships and instructions to apply, go to www.pstcc.edu/departments/financial_aid
