Pellissippi State to show films ‘Persepolis’ and ‘Offside’
Students, faculty and staff can enjoy a free showing of the film “Persepolis” today at 10:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. in the Goins Building Auditorium.
The film supplements this year’s Common Book, “Persepolis,” a graphic-style novel by Marjane Satrapi that chronicles the Iranian (or Islamic) Revolution from a child’s perspective. Selected classes have been reading and discussing the book as part of the College’s Common Academic Experience.
“This black-and-white animated film captures the spirit of Satrapi’s book,” said Carol Luther, English professor. “The coming-of-age story follows Marjane as she deals with the typical problems of growing up, as well as with the events of the Iranian Revolution.”
The film lasts 96 minutes and is rated PG-13.
The community also is invited to view “Offside,” scheduled for March 4 at 11:50 a.m. and March 5 at 12:25 p.m. in the Goins Building Auditorium.
“Offside” is a 2006 Iranian film about young female soccer fans who disguise themselves as boys in order to attend a World Cup soccer match in Iran. The film is rated PG and lasts 93 minutes.
