Support staff host event to raise dollars for scholarships

Pellissippi State’s Support Staff Council will host a sale on Thursday, April 30, and Friday, May 1, to raise money for its Support Staff Dollars for Scholars program.

Faculty, staff and students are called upon to donate items for the sale. The organization has sponsored the event since 1991, says Susan Lovingood, vice president of Support Staff Council.

The council does not set a minimum goal for the fundraiser, which Lovingood compares to a big “rummage sale.”

“We raise what we can raise, and it goes straight to the scholarships,” she said.

All proceeds go to the Pellissippi State Foundation to fund two scholarships.

The Child of Support Staff Scholarship provides $175 to $500 to a student for two semesters. Lovingood says the funding has benefited 20 students to date. The Support Staff Scholarship is awarded for one semester in the amount of $500. Six students have received the award.

The sale is 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. It takes place at the College Center (formerly the Student Lounge) in the Goins Building.

To donate directly to the scholarship fund or contribute an item for the sale, contact Lovingood at smlovingood@pstcc.edu or 539-7037.
