Math Bowl set for March 28
The College is once again hosting the annual Math Bowl for Pellissippi State students.
The competition takes place March 28, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. on the third floor of the McWherter Building. Students will be directed to the appropriate room locations at that time.
This year’s five divisions are Developmental Algebra, Precalculus, Statistics, Calculus A and Calculus B.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division: first place is $120; second place, $80; and third place, $50. The money was donated by Oak Ridge Associated Universities as a grant to the Pellissippi State Foundation. Pizza will be served after the competition, courtesy of the Foundation.
This event is part of the Tennessee Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges’ math competition. Top finishers will compete with other students involved the same contest at other community colleges in Tennessee.
Last year, Pellissippi State had seven students finish in the top three statewide in the five divisions. The College took first place in three of the divisions: Developmental Math, Precalculus and Calculus B.
Information and an online registration form can be accessed from the Mathematics Department’s Web site, www.pstcc.edu/departments/mathematics, or at www.pstcc.edu/facstaff/rtjackso.
