Pellissippi State hosts April 23 design showcase for students

It’s like a graduation, celebration and potential job interview all rolled into one evening.

Pellissippi State’s showcase for its Communication Graphics Technology students on April 23 provides an opportunity to display their design work for professionals, prospective employers, family and friends.

“It’s a big opportunity to be able to show your work and the effort you’ve put into graphic design the last two years,” said Franny Priestley, a 2007 Fulton High School graduate who will earn her associate’s degree on May 9.

The Student Design Showcase is 4-8 p.m. at the Bagwell Center for Media and Art. The event is free and open to the public.

The showcase features the portfolios of 33 students. They’ll show 10 to 20 examples of their best work from the last two years.

“This will be one of the biggest classes we’ve had in some time,” said David Gilbert, associate professor and CGT program coordinator.

Most of the students in the showcase are scheduled for graduation at the end of this semester.

Gilbert says the showcase is aimed at graphic design professionals but also serves as a recruiting tool for prospective students.
