‘Swing Big’ on May 5 and support students
Not all golf tournaments are just for golf enthusiasts. The fifth annual Swing Big for Students Golf Tournament, scheduled for May 5 at Egwani Farms in Rockford, is an event for golfers and for education enthusiasts.
A fundraiser for the Pellissippi State Foundation, the tournament generates money that goes toward programs that directly impact students.
Dick McGill, chief estimator for Joseph Construction Company and event chair for the fifth year, explains the importance of the fundraiser:
“Players and sponsors help the Foundation provide financial assistance to deserving students at Pellissippi State Technical Community College. In addition, they support the institution’s educational and cultural activities. And, they provide resources for equipment, technology and facilities to help students stay in the forefront of ever-changing workplace needs.”
One unique feature of this fundraising tournament is that players and sponsors get to meet some of those who directly benefit from the proceeds. Last year, players from the 40 participating teams mingled on the links not only with sponsors but with student scholarship recipients. The students were there to hand out gifts—and to give thanks. This year’s event offers the same interaction.
Two shotguns are scheduled: the first begins at 8 a.m., while the second round starts at 1 p.m. Individuals and teams are encouraged to sign up early, as there are limited starts available.
Cost is $100 per player, or $400 for teams of four. There are also a wide range of sponsorship opportunities available, in amounts ranging from $150 to $5,000.
For additional information, contact the Foundation’s tournament director, Pat Myers, 539-7242 or pmyers@pstcc.edu, or log on to www.pstcc.edu for a registration form.
