Alumni invited to perform at last concert of the season

“Tell me where is the road I can call my own, that I left, that I lost so long ago?”

When Pellissippi State alumni return to campus Thursday, April 30, to sing in the final musical concert of the year, they will surely reflect on the lyrics of “The Road Home.”

“It’s a Southern harmony tune that tugs at the heart,” said Bill Brewer, who as Music program coordinator extends an invitation to all former choral students to sign up for the Reunion Choir.

The Reunion Choir will perform alongside student vocal groups Variations and Concert Chorale during the grand finale at the Spring Choral Concert. The event is at 7 p.m. in the Clayton Performing Arts Center.

“I’ve heard from about 30 former students so far,” Brewer said. Alumni will rehearse at 5:30 the day of the concert, then join the other student choirs to sing “The Road Home” and “Ain’t Got Time to Die,” an African-American spiritual.

Other highlights of the evening will include Variations Ensemble’s performance of a choral tango, Brewer says.

“Choir members will be doing ‘choralography,’” he said.

Concert Chorale will do a traditional Irish street song, “Tell My Ma.”
“It’s fun and raucous, and reminiscent of a hoedown,” Brewer said.

Admission and parking are free and open to the public. Donations to the Pellissippi State Foundation to benefit the Music Scholarship fund will be gratefully accepted.
