Pellissippi Alerts emergency notification system offers new options

If you haven’t yet signed up for the free emergency alert text messaging service, now is a good time to do so. Originally designed to notify students, faculty and staff of on-campus emergencies, unscheduled closings and weather-related class delays and cancellations, the optional service now makes general announcements available, too.

Users can choose to receive cell phone text messages or e-mail notifications regarding emergency and/or general announcements. Two newer options include receiving Pellissippi State messages on a personalized Google home page or subscribing to announcements via a favorite RSS feed reader, such as Google, Yahoo, AOL or Windows Live.

Registering and customizing the types of alerts and delivery methods you receive are simple: Go to www.pstcc.edu and click on “Learn More” under the Pellissippi State’s Alerts section.

Cell phone numbers registered with Pellissippi Alerts are kept confidential. The service is free, though text messaging rates may be assessed by individual cell phone providers. Currently, 2,200 of Pellissippi State students, faculty and staff subscribe to the service.
