Pellissippi State’s second international film festival starts today

SOAPIFFThe Southern Appalachian International Film Festival returns to Pellissippi State in early November for its second year, bringing in dozens of new documentaries, short films and features from the U.S. and around the world. (more)


Internationally known multimedia artist to exhibit work

Art has taken Paula Clendenin to England, France and multiple states throughout the U.S. Now it will bring the West Virginian to Knoxville for a November exhibit at Pellissippi State. (more)


Faculty member honored for achievement in sports

Pellissippi State faculty member Denise Penzkofer was honored by her alma mater for sports achievement on October 16.

D. PenzkoferPenzkofer, an associate professor who has taught at Pellissippi State since 1999, earned her undergraduate degree in physical education from Maryville College. She played multiple sports during her studies there, including volleyball, basketball and softball. Her induction onto the school’s Wall of Fame recognizes her contribution to “the tradition of MC Athletics.” (more)


New AMTEC Center driven by auto manufacturing needs

autoBeginning with the opening in the 1980s of Nissan’s Smyrna assembly operation and Toyota’s Georgetown, Kentucky, production plant and continuing with the recent decision by Volkswagen to build a factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee has become the avenue for many employment opportunities for people skilled in the technology end of automotive manufacturing. TnCIS expands study abroad opportunities for students

The Tennessee Consortium for International Studies, based at Pellissippi State, offers its first study abroad programs to Asia in summer 2010 and continues expanding its destinations in Europe. (more)


Paul WisePellissippi State employee third in state to earn ProTools certification

Pellissippi State employee Paul Wise has become the third person in Tennessee to be certified as a Digidesign ProTools operator in professional post-production audio techniques and workflow. Wise is a multimedia specialist who manages the state-of-the-art television, audio and photography studios in the Bagwell Center for Media and Art. (more)

As Pellissippi State’s writer-in-residence, Ed Francisco is the epitome of the mild-mannered, bookish professor. But he has another persona that’s quite contradictory—or so it appears at first glance. (more)


Barrels in place for can, bottle recycling—no styrofoam please

RecycleIn an effort to promote recycling, the College has placed blue-and-yellow recycling barrels around campus. Kim Thomas, director of Student Life and Recreation, is asking for everyone’s help in letting students and visitors know that the barrels are for cans and bottles only—not styrofoam. And Thomas has one special request: Please finish your drinks before placing them in the cans. That will help cut down on odors and bees.
