Perhaps the rhythm of the cha-cha appeals to you, or maybe you're more interested in learning the fluid moves of belly dance. It might be the drama of flamenco that you find intriguing.

Whatever your pleasure, the College is offering a variety of non-credit dance courses this spring. Classes run now through May.

Here's a partial selection of the spring selection:

"Beginning Cha-cha"
March 16-April 20 (Wednesdays), 7-8 p.m.; $85 per single or $100 per couple; Blount County Campus

Cuban in origin, the cha-cha first came on the scene in the early 1950s. Cha-cha rhythm is found in some of today’s pop music, making the dance one that can be used on the nightclub or party floor.

"Belly Dance"
March 22-April 26 (Tuesdays), 10:30-11:30 a.m.; $75; Tennessee Conservatory of Fine Arts, 8705 Unicorn Drive, Suite 310

Slower, Middle East–influenced music is the basis for this class. Students will work on flexibility, muscle isolation and stretches, all while listening to world music and learning the captivating moves of belly dance.

"Introduction to Flamenco"
March 22-April 26 (Tuesdays), 6:30-7:30 p.m.; $75; Tennessee Conservatory of Fine Arts, 8705 Unicorn Drive, Suite 310

The flamenco can help improve posture and self-esteem, increase stamina, and burn calories. Plus, it's full of rhythm, clapping and all-around graceful, dramatic fun. No partner is needed for flamenco dance classes.
