Creating a Quiz Template

If you offer several quizzes or exams during the semester with similar settings, then creating a "Quiz Template" may help you save time. Take a look below to learn how to create your own!

Access the Quizzes tool and create a new quiz

Setup all your preferences for the Quiz

Quiz Template Form

In this step, you're going to want to setup any preferences that you plan on using in future quizzes. Some things to add include:

  • Time limits
  • Default submission views and additional views
  • Attempts

Some things that you probably don't want to include in your template:

  • Start and end dates - it's a good idea to go ahead and set the time (for consistency), but leave the actual date empty. Also, make sure to set the quiz as unavailable.
  • Quiz questions
  • Gradebook item associations

Save your template

After you've finished setting up your preferences, go ahead and save your template.

Using the template

Copy Icon

To use the template, simply select it and choose the Copy option at the top of the Quiz List. All your settings will be copied, so you'll just need to edit the name, set start and end dates, attach a grade item to the quiz, and add your questions.
