Officer Reports

·Sub-council representative Dave Vinson’s written report of the January TBR faculty sub-council meeting is available on the Faculty Council website.

·President’s report

President Lisa Bogaty reported that two speakers—Ann Munz, President of the Administrative Council, and Nan Burwell, Director of the SACS Self-Study, have expressed an interest in speaking to Faculty Council at the Feb. 5 meeting.

MOTION 1

Steering Committee approves the request ofAnn Munz, Administrative Council President, to speak to Faculty Council.

Motion carried.

By unanimous consent, the committee also agreed to have Nan Burwell address Faculty Council.

President Bogaty also informed Steering Committee that several faculty have raised questions about the Student Perception of Faculty reports from fall semester. The concerns focus on the means included on the reports. Four primary problems with the use of means have been identified:

1)The use of means on the instrument is not statistically sound.

2)The use of means violates the college’s policies and procedures as outlined in the PPM.

3)The Evaluation Committee did not approve of or agree to the use of any comparative analysis with this instrument.

4)A comparison with peers in different disciplines is of little value.

The Evaluation Committee has met with Dr. Bruns once to discuss the concerns and a second meeting has been scheduled.

Bogaty reported that Faculty Council plans to post the Mercer equalization study information on the Faculty Council website.

Steering Committee discussed but took no action on the following motion passed at the Dec. 5, 2001, Faculty Council meeting:

Faculty Council Steering Committee take up the issue of faculty having input into policies that impact them directly (such as the recent reassignment of load hours for web and distance-learning courses) prior to any decisions being made.
