- 5. Getting the Word Out
Getting the Word Out- Elaine Harrah, our VP of leadership had a great idea to help PTK get more inductees this go around. We are planning to talk to our teachers and see if they could allow some of us to come to their classes and for 2-5 minutes let people know what PTK really is. Many people misinterpret us and end up not joining. Now will be a good time since we are sending out the invitations. We hope to let people know so they will come to the orientation and not throw their letter away. If you are interested in helping talk to classes Please let Niki or Elaine know.
- 6.Old Business:
International Convention The Convention runs from Wednesday, April 11 to Saturday, April 14 but as the host region, we are asked to arrive on Tuesday the 10th to help set up. It will be at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville. Cost is $225.00 for registration if you register online by March 9 and $204.50 for the room per night (it occupies four so it could be split 4 ways). Our chapter can help with some expenses to reward those who have worked hard, but we want to spend some of our funds on spring inductees who can help carry on ATX’s work next year. If you want to attend, please inform Niki Adams, Elaine Harrah or Karen Quammen and our advisors and sign up on the PTK office door.
Our region is responsible for collecting pencils, pads, and other freebies, and stuffing goodie bags for thousands of delegates from around the world. If you know of any company or agency that might be willing to donate, please tell Karen, Niki, or Elaine. We can’t except stuff from 4-year colleges though. It can be as plain as pencils or as nice as jewelry and any number will be greatly appreciated. (You don’t have to collect thousands!) Any number will be appreciated.
Please put these dates on your calendars and be thinking of what we can sell to raise a lot of money (for our international convention in Nashville, especially). We agreed to ask for soft drinks (because of the ease) again--with sundaes as a backup request. But we cannot make this request yet. Or does anyone have a new idea that will make us money? We also agreed we should combine it with some sort of “door prize” as we did last year. We decided to make gift baskets.
*Family Night-Niki
* Date Night-Kristina
* Craft Basket-Michelle
* Grilling Basket-Kimberly
We need as many donations for these basket themes as we can. (Karen will provide boxes to put people’s choice of basket in)
- Convention Fundraisers
*What to sell at International for PSTCC? Blinky lights? Any ideas?!
* Water guns?
* Noise makers?
* Glo jewelry?
* Cell Phone Covers/Cases?
- Fundraising for the Convention- As a group we need to decide what will earn us the most money for this extraordinary expense (approximately $500 per member who goes for four nights). Current suggestions are Pellissippi Shirts (perhaps for faculty and staff), an auction, gift baskets, etc…
President Edwards has agreed to match what we raise.
- Spring Induction
Possible dates for the induction are March 18th as first choice and March 25th as the second choice, depending on our getting either the Performing Arts Bldg or Goins Auditorium to hold the induction. We also planned two orientations to inform potential new inductees. Wednesday, February 28th at noon and Thursday March 1st, at 5pm. We also need help stuffing invitation envelopes.
- Pizza Sales
Pizza Sales- Regina Buckley (the advisor at the Division St. campus) still needs help and wants to know if any officers or members can help sell pizza there on Wednesdays for 30 minutes at lunch time. 11:30-12:00. (Or if anyone knows someone at Division St. who is a member they could talk to/ask.) - She has one worker, but she can only help on certain Wednesdays. If you can work during that time, you get two slices of free pizza and will enjoying getting to know other students and instructors who come through the line. (#971-5210)
