City of Knoxville “Summer in the City” Intern Program

The City of Knoxville's Internship Program is a paid 6 week summer internship program for applicants who are between 17 and 22 years of age. Applicants must be 17 years of age by June 18th and applicants must not be 23 years of age before June 18th. We hope to place 20 applicants for 30 hours per week for 6 weeks. The salary will be $8.75 per hour.

Interns will be placed in City departments and offices and will be assigned to various administrative and support tasks, while also participating in weekly lunchtime workplace and development trainings on topics such as financial planning, interviewing, business etiquette, community relations, and business communications. The weekly commitment for interns is 30 hours per week, which includes participating in workplace and development activities outside of the department.

Each intern will be assigned to a department and a supervisor/mentor within that department. The supervisor/mentor will orient the intern to the department, train him/her on responsibilities, oversee his/her work, complete weekly timesheets, and meet with the intern on a weekly basis to provide instructional feedback.

The application period will be in May 1 through May 19, 2017. Mandatory interviews, placements and orientations will take place June of 2017 and internships will begin approximately June 19th through July 28th. An intern luncheon will be held at the conclusion of the program.

Students must submit at least one letter of recommendation from teacher, pastor, coach, counselor, youth leader, etc. with their application by the May 19th deadline!

Description: Looking to Hire a Help Desk Support Specialist supporting a new contract for a government contract. This position involves responding to problems as reported by the customer, learning the established procedures for support, recording incidents on a proprietary incident tracking system. Response to these problems includes isolating and troubleshooting the incident cause, resolution or escalation, notification of appropriate System and Network Administrators, and tracking the repair progress.     **Be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident
