Welder / Robotic Welding

Employee should be capable of performing a variety of welding functions. The individual should be familiar with and capable of using various types of welding equipment. A welder is also required to perform other miscellaneous tasks, as supervision deems necessary. This job will also have robotic welding and operation of automatic welding cells.

Job Description:

· Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment, manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment, and brazing and semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment in order to bond metal or repair worn or broken metal parts.
· Reads and interprets blueprints and weld drawings to determine specific welding requirements.
· Fabrication ranges from very easy to very complicated, requiring a range of knowledge and skills. Assemble together complex machines and lay-outs. Reads detailed drawings, schematics and blueprints.
· Selects torch, torch tip, filler rod and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of material.
· Performs all necessary maintenance and repair on all equipment used in welding.
· Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
· Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead positions.
· Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
· Repairs broken or cracked parts.
· Properly prep weld area before welding removing mill scale and any substance that might induce hydrogen.
· Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter and cleans or de-greases parts.
· Quality control through the assembly process is required on each process.
· Maintain a safe working area and environment at all times.
· Must be able to follow instruction carefully. Manual dexterity and the ability to carry out complex, repetitive tasks quickly and methodically are also important.
· Progress Report to be reviewed every six months.

Robotic Welding/Future Training

Any experience with robotics is a plus but not required. The welder will know how to do the following after training is complete. The Welder/Robotic Tech will provide technical support in an automated production weld environment and will also be required to perform other miscellaneous tasks, as supervision deems necessary.

· Operate robotic welding equipment including monitoring the robotic welding application, identifying when an error occurs, and documenting the error along with the cause.
· Program robotic welding cells so that parts are made to spec in an efficient manner based upon the specifications supplied
· Programs robot to perform specified tasks using teach pendant and keyboard or control panel or robot controller
· Understand and perform accurate weld fixture and sensor adjustments
· Perform preventative maintenance on robot welding systems and tooling
· Review new product designs to determine the appropriate fixture and identify potential programming issues that may arise.
· Adjust robot postures and paths to correct and maintain weld quality on an ongoing basis Qualifications

FALL 2020 CCI INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS MAJORING IN STEM

The Office of Science / US Department of Energy is pleased to announce paid internship opportunities for undergraduate students majoring in areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) for the Fall of 2020.

The application system for the 2020 Fall Term Community College Internships (CCI) program is currently open, with all applications due by 05:00 PM Eastern Time on May 28, 2020.

The Community College Internships (CCI) program places community college students as paid interns in technological activities at DOE national laboratories, working under the supervision of a laboratory technician or researcher.

Appointments are for 10 weeks during the Fall term, are open to US Citizens and US Lawful Permanent Residents, include a weekly stipend, reimbursement for one round trip domestic travel to the participant’s host DOE laboratory, and possibilities for a housing allowance. More than 100 internships are sponsored annually.

SURVEY TECHNICIAN POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reports To:

The Survey Technician reports to land surveying and civil engineering professional staff.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Job Overview:

The Survey Technician’s primary responsibilities are conducting project research and planning, field surveying, measurement data processing and analysis, and survey equipment maintenance.

Project research and planning includes the collection of information and resources needed prior to starting field work, such as: discussing the project budget and scope of work with the responsible professional staff; obtaining copies of deeds, plats and right-of-way maps; requesting copies of utility maps from utility authorities; submitting TN-811 e-ticket requests for utility designation; obtaining

FEMA flood data; creating CAD files, coordinate files, stakeout points, and point plots of relevant survey features; and survey data collector set-up. The CAD Technician assigned to the project may assist with these tasks.

Field surveying includes the use of field data collectors and measurement equipment (GPS, robotic total station, level, electromagnetic utility designation, etc) for the collection of data needed for the preparation of surveying maps and reports, and engineering plans. Types of field surveys include: boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction surveys, utility designation, and elevation surveys.

Measurement data processing involves downloading field survey data to the office computer for import into CAD software for the preparation of maps.

Measurement data analysis involves: reviewing processed data in CAD; comparing measurement data with property records; discussing measurement data review the professional staff; and review of feature code processing prior to CAD. Technician’s work to prepare the map.

Survey equipment maintenance includes the activities needed for the proper operating condition of the equipment used with field surveying. Equipment includes data collectors, GPS, robotic total stations, levels, measurement rods, electromagnetic utility designators, drones, tools, supplies (stakes, iron pins, caps, etc) and vehicles. Maintenance activities include calibrations, battery charging, oil changes, supply stocking, tool sharpening, etc.

Qualifications:

This position requires a knowledge of and background in land surveying. This position requires someone that has obtained or will obtain a certification, Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in land surveying or engineering. Prior experience in land surveying is preferred but not required. The Survey Technician should be capable of performing field surveys with guidance from the professional surveying and engineering staff. This person should be willing to work in a team environment, freely ask questions, and have an awareness of project budgets.
