What is Tennessee Reconnect?

TN Reconnect is a last-dollar scholarship for adults. With the scholarship, college tuition is free for qualified students who wish to earn an associate degree.

What costs will TN Reconnect cover?

As a last-dollar scholarship, TN Reconnect will cover the cost of tuition and mandatory fees that aren't paid for through other state and federal financial aid. TN Reconnect won’t cover the costs of some fees, textbooks and other costs like travel or childcare, and TN Ecampus online course fees.

Do I qualify for TN Reconnect?

You qualify for TN Reconnect if

  • You do not have an associate or bachelor degree
  • You complete the FAFSA by the following deadlines:
    • Fall - September 1
    • Spring - February 1
    • Summer - February 1
  • You have been a Tennessee resident for one (1) year prior to date of the FAFSA deadline.
  • You are designated as an “independent” on the FAFSA
  • You attend and complete courses at least as a part-time student (minimum six credit hours)
  • You complete the TN Reconnect application. Visit https://www.tnreconnect.gov/

What’s an “independent” on the FAFSA?

You may qualify as an “independent” in several different ways. FAFSA has a useful checklist to see if you qualify.

How do I apply?

To apply for TN Reconnect, you need to complete the TN Reconnect Application, enroll in classes, and complete the FAFSA. The sooner you complete the FAFSA, the sooner you’ll know if this scholarship applies to you.

Remember, Pellissippi State also offers dozens of scholarships. Complete the scholarship application to learn if you qualify.

How do I keep the scholarship once I get it?

To earn and keep TN Reconnect funding, you need to

  • Register for classes in an associate degree program
  • Maintain continuous enrollment and attendance at least part-time (6 hours)
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA for academic year
  • Participate in Success program through TN Reconnect Community.
  • Renew your FAFSA every year

If I am already enrolled at Pellissippi State and meet all the qualifications, can I earn TN Reconnect funding?

Yes. Adult students currently enrolled at Pellissippi State who meet all the other criteria for TN Reconnect will be eligible to receive the last-dollar scholarship. You will need to follow the steps for filing the FAFSA and the TN Reconnect application.

Reconnect to Workforce

Reconnect to Workforce is an initiative to help Tennesseans receiving unemployment benefits to use the Tennessee Reconnect program to earn a college degree or a career or technical certificate. Enrolling full-time through Reconnect will fulfill the work search requirement of unemployment benefits.

Reconnect to Workforce requires students be enrolled full-time:

  • 12 credits per semester at a community college, or;
  • 30 hours a week at a TCAT

What programs qualify?

All Reconnect-eligible programs qualify and should be reported as such in your weekly unemployment confirmation. Claimants should continue normal reporting to continue to qualify for unemployment benefits.

Programs can be found at https://tnreconnect.gov/Search/Search-for-Programs/Program-Search-Results?AwardGroupId=1%2c3%2c9%2c10&Distance=50

Do unemployment benefits get extended because a student is enrolled in Reconnect?

No.

Does the Reconnect grant expire at the same time as my unemployment benefits?

No. Although unemployment benefits have ended, students may still qualify for the TN Reconnect grant.
