REIMAGINE YOUR CAREER

Have you ever imagined what your career could look like? We’re offering the opportunity to receive career-specific training, gain industry recognized credentials and interview with local employers. Designed for those whose finances or employment outlook was negatively impacted by COVID-19, all training is provided at no cost. This two-part program includes a foundations training that all participants will complete, and career-specific tracks that you get to choose based on your interests. Reimagine your career today!

Anyone who’s finances or employment outlook has been negatively impacted by COVID-19 at any time from March 2020 to present day. This includes anyone who has been let go of a job or been laid off permanently or temporarily, experienced a reduction in hours or wages, or has had to take a new job that paid less.

The Reimagine Your Career program at Pellissippi State Community College is free for participants. The program is sponsored by the HEERF Grant.

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to gain financial stability, secure a job that provides insurance and other benefits and begin a meaningful career with opportunities for advancement. This program, provided at no cost, will help you get a foot in the door while earning industry recognized credentials to help your application stand out from the rest. In addition to the training, upon successful completion of the program, each participant is guaranteed the opportunity to interview for a related job with at least one local employer.

Participants accepted into the program are expected to attend and participate in all class sessions and labs. The foundations training is a total of 36 hours in the classroom and will be taught two days a week for up to six weeks. Career tracks begin shortly after the completion of the foundations training. The length of each career track varies.

To apply for the program, complete this application. Each session is limited to 15 participants. If a session fills, you have the option to be placed on a waitlist or moved into a session starting at a later date. The deadline to apply is one week prior to the start date of each session.

HOW IT WORKS

  1. Reimagine Foundations
    The first part of program includes a 36-hour career foundations training. The training was developed in partnership with local employers to cover the skills and habits that employers look for the most when interviewing and hiring new employees. The training will include discussion and hands-on activities to help participants develop an understanding of career options, work ethic, integrity, problem solving, communication and listening skills, workplace math essentials, data analysis and workplace computer skills.

  2. Career Tracks
    The second part of the program focuses on career-specific training. Participants will be able to select the track of their preference during the Reimagine Foundations training. Career tracks will begin within a few weeks upon completion of the Reimagine Foundations training. The length of training varies for each career track.

Participants in the Customer Service track will develop the skills required to provide excellent service in a variety of settings. During the training, learn why customer service is important, active listening techniques, best practices to share information, how to deal with expectations and complaints, ways to evaluate and adapt your process, and basic office technology skills. This training is beneficial in meeting the qualifications for jobs such as customer service specialists, call center representatives, service dispatchers, client experience associates, office coordinators and more.

For entry level customer service positions, the average starting salary is $28,000 per year, with the opportunity for career advancement in leadership and responsibility as a team leader, manager, executive assistant and more.

This career track includes 36 hours of training. 20% of the training will be conducted through learning modules and 80% of the training will be hands-on exercises with technology and scenarios most often encountered in the workplace. Upon completion of the training, participants will take a final exam to earn a certificate through Pellissippi State Community College and Telephone Doctor, Inc.

Participants in the Information Technology track will develop the skills to troubleshoot, problem solve and understand a wide variety of issues ranging from networking and operating systems to mobile devices and security with Google IT Support Specialist certification. This training is beneficial in meeting qualifications for jobs such as database administrators, help desk technicians, technical support specialists and systems analysts.

The average starting salary for entry level help desk and information technology technician positions is approximately $34,000 per year, with the opportunity for advancement through further training and certifications. Many employers recommend an associate’s or bachelor’s degree to advance into more technical roles.

This career track includes 150 hours of training. 50% of the training will be conducted through learning modules and 50% of the training will be hands-on exercises with equipment and scenarios most often encountered in the workplace. Upon completion of the training, participants will take the certification exam to earn an industry recognized certificate.

A certified production technician (CPT) uses different technologies to set-up, test and adjust advanced manufacturing machinery and equipment. During the training, learn the core competencies of safety in manufacturing facilities, the importance of quality standards, how your role in production impacts others on your team, and how to recognize if equipment is in need of basic, routine maintenance. This training is beneficial for meeting the qualifications of jobs such as line technicians, quality inspectors and set-up operators.

Nationwide, there is a growing demand for trained CPTs. For CPTs, the average starting salary is $15 an hour or approximately $30,000 per year, with the opportunity for career advancement in leadership and responsibility as a team leader, supervisor, quality management and more.

This career track includes 140 hours of training. 50% of the training will be conducted through learning modules and 50% of the training will be hands-on exercises with equipment and scenarios most often encountered in the workplace. Upon completion of the training, participants will take the certification exam to earn an industry recognized certificate.

A certified logistics technician (CLT) is an essential member of the supply chain automation team. CLTs work in fulfillment centers, warehouses, distribution centers and factories, and typically are involved in receiving, packing, shipping, tracking and processing orders. This training is beneficial in meeting the qualifications for jobs such as supply technicians, inventory control, shipping assistants, logistics specialists and materials management technicians.

Nationwide, there is a growing demand for trained CLTs. The average starting salary for a CLT is $15 an hour or approximately $30,000 per year, with the opportunity for career advancement in leadership and responsibility as a team leader, supervisor, quality management and more.

This career track includes 70 hours of training. 50% of the training will be conducted through learning modules and 50% of the training will be hands-on exercises with equipment and scenarios most often encountered in the workplace. A portion of the training will also include basic forklift operation. Upon completion of the training, participants will take the certification exam to earn an industry recognized certificate.



Interviews

Upon successful completion of the career track training, each participant is guaranteed the opportunity to interview for a related job with at least one local employer. During the training, employers who are offering interviews will meet with the class to discuss what they do, what it’s like to work at their business, and the types of jobs they’ll be interviewing for. Participants will have the option to interview with the employers of their choosing.

Please note that employment is not guaranteed upon completion of the program. Employers may also require a background check or other eligibility qualifications upon offering employment.
