Pellissippi State AmeriCorps VISTA Program

Pellissippi State's AmeriCorps VISTA Program assists the college and community partners with their goals related to local healthy food access, sustainable living, nutrition education, economic opportunity, and community school support. Previous projects include, but are not limited to, UACS Pond Gap Elementary, Great School Partnership and Second Harvest Food Bank.

The Pellissippi State AmeriCorps VISTA Program includes the following projects:

Pellissippi Pantry: With the help of AmeriCorps VISTA, this five-campus online food pantry seeks to alleviate food access challenges faced by financially challenged students, employees, and their families.  The pantry provides participants with nutritiously rich and balanced food sources including fresh, organic produce harvested from the Hardin Valley Campus Garden.  Contact ppantry@pstcc.edu for more information.

Hardin Valley Campus Garden: The AmeriCorps VISTA assigned to Hardin Valley Campus Garden will help increase the production, resources, and student, staff, and faculty participation in the garden through volunteerism and service-learning projects.  Contact e_jdburnette@pstcc.edu for additional information.

Financial Well-Being: Year two of this innovative AmeriCorps Vista project focuses on building capacity for the Financial Well-being Program on the Magnolia Avenue Campus. This Program, supported by both internal and external partners, is designed to strengthen students’ financial knowledge around budgeting & money management. Program standards will be created to allow replication on other PSCC campuses. Contact Jessica Dean at jndean1@pstcc.edu.

Project GRAD-Knoxville/Live.Love.Hope’s Youth Entrepreneur Program (@YEP!) This PSCC AmeriCorps VISTA is capacity building a mentoring program connecting entrepreneurial Austin-East and Fulton High seniors with successful Knoxville-area entrepreneurs who are mentoring the students with business skills so they can lunch their own successful companies in downtown Knoxville.  For more information, contact service-learning@pstcc.edu.

Adult Learner Support: This exciting new AmeriCorps VISTA project will strategize an immediate and long-range adult learner support protocol, develop materials, and create sustainable and replicable processes to efficiently and effectively connect low-income adult learners to internal and external support services that can reduce poverty-based obstacles to completing a post-secondary education.
