Other Exams

From the high school equivalency test (HiSET) to correspondence testing and credit-by-examinations like CLEP and DSST, the Testing Center is your one-stop shop for all other examinations.

High School Equivalency Exam

The high school equivalency test, also called the HiSET, replaces the GED test. Pellissippi State is a testing site for the HiSET, but is not a state Adult Education program.

For more information about Adult Education programs for Knox County, contact the Tennessee College of Applied Technology – Knoxville at 865.546.5567. TCAT can provide information about the official practice test, or OTP, which you must complete before you can take the HiSET. When you are ready to take the exam, schedule and pay for your exam at

TNeCampus Testing

The Testing Center is a proctor site for TNeCampus classes. If you are a TNeCampus student, you may take your exams on any campus and don’t need an appointment. Testing is completed on a walk-in basis. However, please be aware that the Testing Center can become quite crowded during midterm and final exam times. Plan to arrive early in the day to beat the rush.

Some instructors require exams to be proctored. Students can request an exam proctor. You will receive an email containing test dates and times with a proctor. Our Testing Center does not charge proctor fees for TNeCampus testing.

HESI-A2 Pre-Nursing Exam

The Health Education Systems Inc. Admission Assessment Exam-A2 (HESI-A2) is a required exam for all Nursing program applicants, even if you already are an EMT or LPN.

Testing periods are slightly different for the two Nursing pathways. The testing period for the Traditional Pathway is August 2017 through February 28, 2018. The testing period for the Bridge to RN Pathway is August 2017 through January 31, 2018.

Visit the Nursing program site for complete details to register for the HESI-A2.

Correspondence Testing

The Testing Center can proctor exams for other schools for a proctor fee of $25 per test. To arrange for a proctored exam at the Testing Center, inform your professor and complete any required forms. If we need to complete a form, call us at 865.694.6454.

Once you have satisfied your school’s requirements and they have sent us your examination, visit or call the Testing Center during normal business hours to pay your proctor fee. We accept checks, money orders and debit or credit cards, but not cash. You do not need an appointment to take your exam; simply walk in during normal business hours.

CLEP and DSST Testing

The CLEP and DSST (formerly the DANTES Subject Standardized Tests) are credit-by-examination tests. Pellissippi State accepts certain CLEP and DSST exams for college credit. In addition to the individual test fees, we charge a $25 proctor fee per exam. We accept checks, money orders and debit or credit cards, but not cash.

To take either exam in the Testing Center, you will need to register for the CLEP or register for the DSST.

Then visit a Testing Center location or call 865.694.6454 to schedule an appointment to take your exam and to pay your proctor fee. CLEP and DSST exams are offered only on certain campuses. When making your appointment, be sure to note which campus is hosting your exam.

A note: If you want to take the CLEP or DSST for credit at another institution, we are happy to give you the exam you request. But remember, not all schools accept the same tests. Call your institution’s admissions office to be certain you take the correct CLEP or DSST. We are not responsible if you request and take the wrong exam.

Microsoft Certification Exams

Microsoft Certification Exams, including the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS), Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) or Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE). These examinations are free to take for Pellissippi State students, alumni and employees while the free vouchers last. Community members must pay the certification fee. To take the exams, test candidates must register an account with Certiport. Hardin Valley and Strawberry Plains campuses offer these exams by appointment; call 865.694.6454.
