Exams

From the high school equivalency test (HiSET) to correspondence testing and credit-by-examinations like CLEP and DSST, the Testing Center is your one-stop shop for all other examinations.

High School Equivalency Exam

The high school equivalency test, also called the HiSET, replaces the GED test in Tennessee. Pellissippi State is a testing site for the HiSET, but is not a state Adult Education program.

For more information about Adult Education programs for Knox County, contact the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) – Knoxville at 865.594-0766. TCAT can provide information about an official practice test, or OTP, and how to enroll in a HiSET preparation class. When you are ready to take the exam, go to hiset.ets.org to schedule your test for Pellissippi State and pay for your exam.

TNeCampus Testing

The Testing Center is a proctor site for TNeCampus classes. If you are a TNeCampus student, you may take your exams on any campus and don’t need an appointment. Testing is completed on a walk-in basis. However, please be aware that the Testing Center can become quite crowded during midterm and final exam times. Plan to arrive early in the day to beat the rush and know your instructor’s name and course number..

Some instructors require exams to be proctored. Students can request an exam proctor. Our Testing Center does not charge proctor fees for TNeCampus testing.

HESI-A2 Pre-Nursing Exam

The Health Education Systems Inc. Admission Assessment Exam-A2 (HESI-A2) is a required exam for all Nursing program applicants, even if you already are an EMT or LPN. This test is only for PSCC program applicants.

Testing periods may be slightly different for the two Nursing pathways. Visit the Nursing program site for complete details to register for the HESI-A2. Visit https://www.registerblast.com/pstcc to register for the exam.

Certiport Testing

For students or affiliates of PSCC who want to be certified on Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) 365 APPS and Office 2019 exams such as WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, ACCESS or OUTLOOK. Class credits may be granted for passing scores. Pellissippi State students enrolled in INFO classes may be eligible to take these exams for free. Please contact your INFO instructor. If not enrolled in an INFO class or at Pellissippi State, go to www.Certiport.pearsonvue.com to buy a voucher for testing. Then go to https://Registerblast.com/pstcc to schedule a test appointment.

Correspondence Testing

The Testing Center can proctor exams for other schools for a proctor fee of $30 per test. To schedule your Correspondence exam and pay the proctor fee, visit https://www.registerblast.com/pstcc. You will need to know the length of your exam prior to registering.

CLEP and DSST Testing

The CLEP and DSST (formerly the DANTES Subject Standardized Tests) are credit-by-examination tests. Pellissippi State accepts certain CLEP and DSST exams for college credit. Talk to a PSCC academic advisor or the Admission Office to find out what PSCC’s policy is on granting credit by exam. Then look over the exam lists and decide on the exam you want to take and verify the college will award credit for that exam. Military may be eligible to have the test fee waived. However, in addition to the individual test fee, the Testing Center charges a $30 proctor fee per exam.

To take either exam in the Testing Center, you will need to register for the CLEP or DSST exam before scheduling your testing appointment. To register for a CLEP exam, go to https://clep.collegeboard.org. Once you register for CLEP, you will be given a Registration Ticket Number. Please bring that ticket number with you to test.

To register for the DSST exam, go to https://getcollegecredit.com. You will pay for the DSST test when you take the exam.

To make a test appointment for either exam (except the DSST Public speaking exam) and pay your proctor fee, visit https://www.registerblast.com/pstcc. For the DSST Public Speaking exam, please call the Testing Center office at 865.694.6454 to schedule an appointment and pay your proctor fee. CLEP and DSST exams are offered only on certain campuses so please take note which campus is hosting your exam.

A note: If you want to take the CLEP or DSST for credit at another institution, we are happy to give you the exam you request. But remember, not all schools accept the same tests. Call your institution’s admissions office to be certain you take the correct CLEP or DSST. We are not responsible if you request and take the wrong exam.
