Calculators and Textbooks

Pellissippi State’s Mathematics Department fully supports the recommendations of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges that calculators and computers be integrated into all mathematics courses for classwork, homework and testing.

The department believes that all teachers in all courses should promote the use of calculators, where appropriate, to enhance mathematics instruction in computation, problem solving, concept development, pattern recognition, data analysis, graphing and testing.

However, there are certain mathematical skills that students should master with paper and pencil; therefore, some restrictions may be placed on the use of calculators or computers in specific courses.

Each course syllabus includes instruction on calculator and technology requirements or restrictions specific to that class. Or, for further information, read the TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus Silver Edition Guidebook

Specific textbook information can be found in the course information when registering or from the instructor.
