Summer Camps

Summer camps at Pellissippi State offer a variety of activities and opportunities that can introduce middle and high school students to careers and other engaging activities offered at the college. Some of the camp topics include criminal justice, leadership, entrepreneurship, hospitality and event planning, pickleball, creative arts and manufacturing.

Our camp experiences can help your child develop important life skills such as teamwork, leadership and communication – skills that are necessary to excel in their academic and personal lives. At Pellissippi State, you’ll find a safe and welcoming environment for your child. They’ll have fun, make friends,  and boost their confidence and self-esteem while learning from seasoned instructors.

Camps at Blount County

Monday-Thursday, July 15-18, 2024
9 a.m. – Noon
Course Fee: $125

If you‘ve ever thought about a career in event management, party planning or guest relations, this is the opportunity for you to learn more.

In this four-day camp for high school students entering grades 9 -12 in Fall 2024, discover how to put together trend-worthy parties, social gatherings and other formal events, and explore the many career possibilities in hospitality and event management.

At our CSI: Forensics Camp, high school students entering grades 9 -12 in Fall 2024 can learn how to become an investigator while discovering how science and law intersect.

Students will be presented with a re-creation of a crime scene and will learn about the phases of the legal process, gathering and analyzing evidence, testing techniques and more. Hands-on activities will teach students to observe and interpret details, practice teamwork and hone critical thinking skills.

At this transformational four-day leadership camp for high school students entering grades 9 -12 in Fall 2024, you’ll learn about leadership styles, identify your own strengths, build self-confidence, develop tools to work through conflict, and learn how to apply your leadership skills in a variety of real-world situations.

Hands-on exercises, interactive assessments and group challenges throughout the camp are designed to hone leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, while empowering you to become a leader in your community.

Camps at Hardin Valley

Monday-Thursday, July 8-11, 2024

Explore your creativity through drawing! Learn the basic elements of drawing with pencils, including line, shape, value, form, space, texture, perspective and shading in this four-day camp with local artist Diann Bishop. This camp is designed for middle school students. All supplies will be provided.

Unleash your imagination with watercolor! In this four-day camp with local artist, Diann Bishop, learn watercolor painting techniques as you practice a variety of paintings from start to finish. Students will learn the foundational skills needed for aspiring artists, including composition, color theory, creating highlights and shadows with watercolor washes and more. This camp is designed for middle school students. All supplies will be provided.

This free, one-day HAAS Operator Certification camp exposes high school students to the world of CNC machining through online technical instruction and hands-on lab experience. Learn basic CNC mill operation, machine safety and fundamental machining processes. Students must successfully pass the assessment at the end of the camp to earn the certification.

Learn more about how Pellissippi State is only one of two higher education institutions nationwide that can provide in-person assessments for those seeking HAAS certification.

Course Fee: $125

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the US, and is a great way to introduce youth to fun, athletic competition. In this four-day camp designed for high school students of all skill levels, learn the foundations of the game, hand-eye coordination, agility, problem-solving skills, conflict resolution, teamwork and social interaction through daily instruction and skill development, supplemented with open play. Each day, campers will practice the fundamentals of serving and receiving the ball, volleying, dinking, positioning, scoring and more.

The last day of the camp will include a tournament with prizes! The camp will be held on indoor pickleball courts. While the courts stay at a comfortable temperature, the space is not fully air conditioned. Please bring a water bottle, and dress comfortably to move around the court. Court sneakers or tennis shoes are recommended. Pickleball paddles will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. The camp will be instructed by Pellissippi State Recreational Sport professionals and faculty Philip Ems and Scott Mann.

Camps at Strawberry Plains

Get a head start on your future career in manufacturing and engineering!

Join us for a four-day ACE CNC Machining camp to learn the world of CNC Machining. The camp includes instruction and hands-on lab time. Students will learn about part and machine set-up; probing; program uploads; tooling; controller use; and Fusion360. Successful completion of the camp will help you stand out when applying for positions such as manufacturing engineers, machine tool designers, machinists, and others.

This camp is offered at no cost through grant funding, but registration is required. All supplies, materials, snacks, drinks, and lunch will be provided. Students will also receive a polo shirt.
