Academic Grade Appeal

An academic appeal is a formal request brought by a student to challenge a grade. An academic appeal will be considered if there is evidence of one or more of the following conditions that have adversely affected the student’s grade: error in the calculation of grade; substantial deviation from the syllabus; or clear violation of Pellissippi State Community College and/or the Tennessee Board of Regents policies. An appeal will not be considered because of general dissatisfaction with a grade, penalty, or outcome of a course. Additional information can be found within the Academic Standards policy.

To contest a grade in a course, please complete the Course Grade Appeal form and submit to the appropriate academic department within the first 20 calendar days of the next semester. 

Behavioral Misconduct

In order to maintain an environment conducive to educational excellence, Pellissippi State Community College has established behavioral standards for all students. The academic and behavioral expectations for our students are discussed in greater detail within the Student Code of Conduct and Due Process. The College encourages faculty, staff, and students to report all incidents that may violate the college’s behavioral expectations.

If you believe a violation of the behavioral standards has occurred, you may submit a BIT Referral to the Dean of Students.

Concerning Behaviors

The College is especially concerned about any behaviors and activities that are disruptive to the mission of the College and potentially harmful to members of the college community. Concerning behaviors may or may not be violations of the Student Code of Conduct and Due Process, but give general concern for the safety of the individual or of others.  Behaviors may be erratic, aggressive, indicate potential to harm self or others, drastic changes in behavior, or indicate substance abuse.

If you have observed behaviors that give you cause to be concerned, you are encouraged to submit a BIT Referral.


Pellissippi State Community College prohibits harassment of its employees, students, or visitors based on race, color, religion, creed, ethnic or national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, disability, age, status as a covered veteran, or genetic information in its programs and activities. Retaliation against those who allege such harassment is strictly prohibited.

If you have experienced discrimination, harassment, or an act of retaliation, please report to Institutional Compliance. 

General Complaint

Pellissippi State Community College strives to provide the best instructional atmosphere and level of service to students. At times, however, students may have an issue, concern or complaint regarding their educational experience. In such cases, the College strives to resolve issues as quickly as possible and at the level closest to the issue.

If you have a concern not addressed by any of the specific complaint methods, please complete the General Complaint Form.

Report Crime to Campus Police

If you are aware of crimes being committed at any of our Pellissippi State campuses please report this information to the Pellissippi State Police. When completing the form, include campus location, date, times and any other information to help us address the concern and maintain a safe campus community.

To report information anonymously to the Pellissippi State Police please complete the tip form. Additionally, you may contact our police department via phone 865-694-6649 or in person at any campus location.

Sexual Misconduct, Relationship Violence, or Stalking

Sexual misconduct is a form of sex discrimination prohibited by federal and state discrimination laws, including Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and is strictly prohibited by Pellissippi State. Sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, stalking, and retaliation are acts that fall into this category.

The College has established processes to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct and provide resources to those impacted by such acts.

To report these behaviors to the college please submit a report to the Title IX Coordinator.

Workers’ Compensation

Both students and employees who have an incident on campus which results in an injury must first file an incident report with Campus Police.

State of Tennessee Workers’ Compensation Program Workplace Injury Call Center:  866.245.8588 
Employee and Supervisor select option 1 to speak to a nurse for immediate care. 
Select option 2 for First Notice of Loss reporting. 
Call 911 for Medical Emergencies.

Reporting Process 

On the day of your injury: 

  1. File an incident report with Pellissippi State Campus Police on the day the injury occurs. 
  2. Call the number above with your supervisor. There will be questions for your supervisor to answer. 
  3. Corvel will tell you where to seek medical attention. 
  4. If it is an emergency, please call 911 and you can complete the paperwork later. Please call the number as soon as reasonable.

After injury: 

  1. Human Resources will contact you with relevant questions for reporting purposes. 
  2. Medical documentation from your treatment will need to be sent to Human Resources.
