Advising

Advising is an important part of a student’s academic journey. It is an interactive dialogue centered around the individualized needs of each student. Advisors inform and empower students to make effective decisions concerning their interests and academic goals. All students are assigned an academic advisor based on their chosen major. The advising office has representatives on all campuses and virtually through advising@pstcc.edu.

January 18-20 are the official drop/add days for spring semester 2022. Listed here are the ways students may receive assistance for drop/add and exception registration from our office.

  • Contact their assigned advisor, if that information is available.
  • Meet with an advisor on-campus or through a virtual advising kiosk.
  • Contact advising@pstcc.edu for assistance.

Nursing pathway students and Nursing program students must contact either the Nursing pathway advisor or their assigned faculty advisor.

Bookstore

We encourage students to order their course materials online through our website, www.pstccshop.com. Blount County, Division Street, Hardin Valley and Strawberry Plains campuses’ Bookstore locations are open. Magnolia Avenue Campus’ Bookstore location is only available for online order pickup (days and hours are posted at www.pstccshop.com). Eligible students may charge to their financial aid accounts online through Jan. 25 and in the physical bookstores through Jan. 28. Students should use their student ID number (P#) as their financial aid account number, including the P at the beginning of the number.

Nonacademic needs (food, transportation, utilities, rent, etc.)

Student Care and Advocacy is here to support students who may be dealing with nonacademic barriers to success. Some of these barriers may include transportation, housing, childcare or food access. Our goal is to connect students to internal and external resources to address these issues.

Our department also provides support to students who have been in the foster care system, as well as students experiencing homelessness. We manage our Pellissippi Pantry and Hardin Valley Campus Garden and coordinate sustainability initiatives throughout the College.

If you need help locating a resource to assist with any of these nonacademic issues, contact us at sca@pstcc.edu. We are happy to help. If you have an emergency need for information regarding community resources, please call 211 to access community resources in the East Tennessee region.

We help students navigate the many transitions and challenges they may encounter during their college experience. Our devoted team offers support to ease students’ onboarding process, normalize help-seeking behavior and foster a sense of belonging. Closing equity gaps through service to marginalized or minoritized groups is also at the heart of our office’s work. For more information, please contact us at persist@pstcc.edu.
